Ann was born in 1851 in Tyldesley.1  Ann's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Ellen Watson.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Mary Harrison. She had two brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, Amelia, Kate and Ellen.  She was the second oldest of the six children.
