Henry's father was Daniel Longworth and his mother was Ann Rothwell. His paternal grandparents were Robert Longworth and Catherine Mather. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Henry, William, Louisa, Alice, Annie and Bertha. He was the third oldest of the seven children. He had a half-sister named Elizabeth. He died in April 1869 in Horwich.¹
