Bertha's father was Daniel Longworth and her mother was Ann Rothwell. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Longworth and Catherine Mather. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Henry, Henry, William, Louisa, Alice and Annie. She was the youngest of the seven children. She had a half-sister named Elizabeth. She died at the age of 1 in 1879 in Horwich.¹
