Jessie's father was Thomas Lewis and her mother was Alice Emma Taylor. Her paternal grandparents were William Lewis and Catherine Whalley. She had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Thomas, Edward, Alice, Edna and Eunice. She was the fifth oldest of the seven children. She died at the age of 92 in 2001 in Birkenhead.
