Mary was born in 1812 in Bickley and her baptism took place on January 26th, 1812 in Malpas.1  Mary's father was Joseph Hopley and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Perry.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Hopley and Cicely (Cecilla) Johnson. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named George, John, George, Joseph, Mary, Hannah, Cecily, Cecily, Elizabeth, Anne and Martha.  She died at the age of 73 in 1885.

‌Mary and William were married in a religious ceremony on January 27th, 1835 in Hargrave.3   They had seven sons and two daughters, named George, Joseph, Samuel, John, Thomas, Emma, David, Sarah and Elizabeth.  There are no more children.
