Emma was born in 1826 in Farndon and her baptism took place there on August 27th, 1826.1  Emma's father was Samuel Hopley and her mother was Mary Saunders.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles Hopley and Mary Poovah. She had two brothers and a sister, named Charles, Thomas and Ann.  She was the oldest of the four children. She had a half-brother named John.
