Abraham was born in February 1873 in Farnworth and his baptism took place on March 9th, 1873 at St. John the Evangelist (Failsworth).1 2  Abraham's father was Moses Farnworth and his mother was Betsy Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Hugh Mather and Alice Crompton. He had three brothers and five sisters, named James, James, Robert, Elizabeth, Alice, Mary, Ada and Jane.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine known children.  He died at the age of 1 in 1874 in Farnworth.1
