Alice was born in October 1870 in Farnworth and her baptism took place on December 1st, 1870 at St. John the Evangelist (Failsworth).1 2  Alice's father was Moses Farnworth and her mother was Betsy Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Hugh Mather and Alice Crompton. She had four brothers and four sisters, named James, James, Abraham, Robert, Elizabeth, Mary, Ada and Jane.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine known children.  She died at the age of 4 in June 1875 in Farnworth.3
