William's father was John Brockbank and his mother was Mary Ann Mather. His maternal grandparents were James Mather and Mercy Grime. He had five brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Joseph, James, William, Elizabeth and Mary. He was the oldest of the eight children. He died at 8 months old in August 1859 in West Derby. His burial was on August 30th, 1859.²
