Elizabeth's father was John Brockbank and her mother was Mary Ann Mather. Her maternal grandparents were James Mather and Mercy Grime. She had six brothers and a sister, named William, John, William, Joseph, James, William and Mary. She was the fifth oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 82 in 1950.
