Elizabeth's father was John Brockbank and her mother was Helena Jones. Her paternal grandparents were John Brockbank and Mary Ann Mather. She had two brothers named Thomas and Joseph. She was the oldest of the three children. She had three half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named John, James, William, Mary, Margaret, Hannah, Edith, Florence, Lily and Ethel.
