Martha's father was John Brereton and her mother was Elizabeth Shenton.  Her paternal grandparents were John Brereton and Ellen Latham. She had five brothers and five sisters, named James, James, William, Joseph, Joseph, Ellen, Elizabeth, Mary, Harriet and Patience.  She was the fourth youngest of the eleven children.  She died as an infant at 8 months old in February 1839 in Wybunbury.  She was buried on February 11th, 1839 in Wybunbury.¹
