James was born in December 1824 in Wybunbury and his baptism took place there on December 5th, 1824.¹

Birth Notes

James' father was John Brereton and his mother was Elizabeth Shenton. His paternal grandparents were John Brereton and Ellen Latham. He had four brothers and six sisters, named James, William, Joseph, Joseph, Ellen, Elizabeth, Mary, Martha, Harriet and Patience. He was the oldest of the eleven children.
