Joseph was born in July 1841 in Shavington and his baptism took place on July 18th, 1841 in Wybunbury.¹

Birth Notes

Joseph's father was John Brereton and his mother was Elizabeth Shenton. His paternal grandparents were John Brereton and Ellen Latham. He had four brothers and six sisters, named James, James, William, Joseph, Ellen, Elizabeth, Mary, Martha, Harriet and Patience. He was the second youngest of the eleven children.
