Catherine was born in June 1858 in Harthill.1  Catherine's father was Thomas Brereton and her mother was Catherine Rushton.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Brereton and Elizabeth (Betty) Haywood. She had six brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, William, Abraham, Thomas, Richard, Elizabeth, Ann and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the ten children.  She died at the age of 25 on August 18th, 1883 in Harthill.  She was buried on August 22nd, 1883 at All Saints, Harthill.1 1
