Talitha was born on December 2nd, 1894.  Talitha's father was Hendrik Jacobus van der Merwe Martens and her mother was Anna Maria Isobella Martens.  Her paternal grandparents were Hendrik Jacobus Martens and Elizabeth Maria Roos; her maternal grandparents were Jan (Tommie) Thomas Martens and Anna  Catharina Elizabeth Pretorius. She had ten brothers and four sisters, named Hendrik, Jan, Hendrik, Jacobus , Dewald, Gert , Gert, Charl, Paul, Stephanus (Fanie), Anna, Elizabeth , Maria and Maria.  She was the third youngest of the fifteen children.  She died at 1 months old on January 26th, 1895.
