Stephanus (Fanie) was born on May 12th, 1898.  Stephanus (Fanie)'s father was Hendrik Jacobus van der Merwe Martens and his mother was Anna Maria Isobella Martens.  His paternal grandparents were Hendrik Jacobus Martens and Elizabeth Maria Roos; his maternal grandparents were Jan (Tommie) Thomas Martens and Anna  Catharina Elizabeth Pretorius. He had nine brothers and five sisters, named Hendrik, Jan, Hendrik, Jacobus , Dewald, Gert , Gert, Charl, Paul, Anna, Elizabeth , Maria, Maria and Talitha.  He was the youngest of the fifteen children.  He died due to murder / assassination at the age of 68 on August 13th, 1966.
