Margaret was born in 1807 in Laggan, Perthshire, Scotland and her baptism took place on April 5th, 1807 in Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland. Margaret's father was Peter John McRosty and her mother was Margaret Stewart. Her paternal grandparents were James McRosty and Janet McNab; her maternal grandparents were Daniel Stewart and Catharine McLaren. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Alexander, Peter, Janet, Christian and Elizabeth. She was the second youngest of the six children. She had two half-brothers named James and John.-
