Margaret was born on September 10th, 1775 in Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland and her baptism took place there on September 10th, 1775.  Margaret's father was Daniel Stewart and her mother was Catharine McLaren.  Her paternal grandparents were Niel Stewart and May Robertson; her maternal grandparents were Alexander McLaren and Margaret Cameron. She had two brothers named Duncan and Robert.  She was the oldest of the three children.
