Catharine was born on December 25th, 1755 in Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland and her baptism took place there on December 25th, 1755.  Catharine's father was Alexander McLaren and her mother was Margaret Cameron. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Alexander, Patrick, John, Ann and Christian.  She was the oldest of the six children.
