Christian was born in 1805 in Laggan, Perthshire, Scotland and her baptism took place on June 2nd, 1805 in Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland. Christian's father was Peter John McRosty and her mother was Margaret Stewart. Her paternal grandparents were James McRosty and Janet McNab; her maternal grandparents were Daniel Stewart and Catharine McLaren. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Alexander, Peter, Janet, Margaret and Elizabeth. She was the third youngest of the six children. She had two half-brothers named James and John.-
