Lavinia was born in 1871 in Beccles, Suffolk, England.  Lavinia's father was Frederick Salhouse Tillett and her mother was Mary  Ann Gross.  Her maternal grandparents were Henry Gross and Mary Ann Mobbs. She had six brothers and five sisters, named Frederick, Harry, Samuel, Frederick, William, Bertie, Emma, Mary Ann, Ellen, Edith and Ella.  She was the fifth oldest of the twelve children.  She died at the age of 101 in March 1972 in Tonbridge, Kent, England.
