Herschel V. J. was born on March 26th, 1855 in Screven Co., GA.1 Herschel V. J.'s father was John Ruel Evans and his mother was Sarah Elizabeth Lucas. His paternal grandparents were Hezekiah Evans and Sarah Moore. He had six brothers and seven sisters, named John Ruel, James Hezekiah, William Ellison, Charles, Ruel, Hezekiah, Sarah Elizabeth, Anna Jane, Evalina, Martha Humphries, Magnolia, Jessamine and Dahlia. He was the sixth oldest of the fourteen children. He died at the age of 64 on November 25th, 1919 in Screven Co., GA. He was buried in November 1919 in Screven Co., GA.1 1 General Notes
