William was born about 1200 in Derbyshire.  William's father was Earl William de Ferrers of Derby and his mother was Agnes de Meschines of Chester.  His paternal grandparents were Earl Walkelin de Ferrieres V of Derby and Sybil de Braose; his maternal grandparents were Earl Hugh de Keveliock of Chester and Bertrade de Montfort. He had three sisters named Petronille, Bertha and Agnes.  He was the second youngest of the four children.  He died on March 24th, 1254 in Evington, Leicestershire.  He was buried on March 31st, 1254 in Merevale Abbey, Merevale, Warwickshire, England.


William's first family with Margaret de Quincy

‌William and Margaret were married in a religious ceremony in 1238.  They had two sons and two daughters, named Robert, William, Agnes and Joan.


William's second family with Sibyl Marshall

They had a son and four daughters, named John, Isabella, Sybyl, Maud and Joan.
