Catharine Swynford was born in 1350 in Picardy, Somme, France.  Catharine Swynford's father was Sir Knight Payn I de Roet and her mother was Catherine de Hainault.  Her paternal grandfather was Comte Payne II de Roet; her maternal grandparents were William ("the Good") de Avesnes III or V and Jeanne de Valois. She had a sister named Philippa.  She was the younger of the two children.  She died at the age of 53 on May 10th, 1403 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.  She was buried in Lincoln Cathedral, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.
