Euphemia was born about 1090 in Kiev, Ukraine.  Euphemia's father was Grand Duke Vladimir Monomachus ("Monomakh") II of Kiev and her mother is Princess Gytha of England.  Her paternal grandparents were Prince Vsevolod I of Kiev and Princess Irene of Byzantium; her maternal grandparents were King Harold Godewineson II of the English and Eadgyth Swan-neck. She had two brothers named Harold Mstislav I and "Dolgorukij".  She is the second oldest of the three children.
