Gytha was born about 1053 in London, England.  Gytha's father was King Harold Godewineson II of the English and her mother was Eadgyth Swan-neck.  Her paternal grandfather was Earl Godwin of Wessex & Kent and her paternal grandmother is Gytha Thorkillsdottir; her maternal grandfather was King Aelfgar of the East Saxons and her maternal grandmother is Princess Aelgifu of England. She has a half-brother named Godwine.


Gytha's family with Grand Duke Vladimir Monomachus ("Monomakh") II of Kiev

‌Gytha and "Monomakh" were married in a religious ceremony in 1071 in London, England.  They had two sons and a daughter, named Harold Mstislav I, "Dolgorukij" and Euphemia.
