Emma was born about 0986 in Normandy, France.  Emma's father was Duke Richard ("the Fearless", "Sans Peur") I of Normandy and her mother was Gunnora Haraldsdottir de Crepon.  Her paternal grandparents were Duke William ("Longsword", "Longue Epaee") I of Normandy and Esprista de Senlis; her maternal grandfather was King Harald II ("the Dane", "Bluetooth") Gormsson of Denmark and her maternal grandmother is Princess Gunhilda Olafsdottir of Sweden. She had five brothers and three sisters, named William, "Curthose", Mauger, Godfrey, "the Good", Hawise, Beatrix and Beatrice. She had a half-brother and five half-sisters, named William Hieme, Muriella, Pappia, Fredistina, Susannah and Alix.  She died on March 14th, 1062 in Winchester.

‌Emma and "the Unready" (without counsel) were married in a religious ceremony on April 5th, 1002.  They had a son and three daughters, named Ingelric, Godgifu Goda, Adgina and Godgifu.
