Conrad was born in 0800 in Burgundy, France.  Conrad's father was Count Welf von Eritgau I of Andechs and his mother was Heilwig von Saxony.  His paternal grandparents were Count Welf Isembart of Altdorf & Thurgau and Irmentruda Theidrada von Nagolzgau of Germany; his maternal grandfather was King Wittekind of the Saxons and his maternal grandmother is Geva Eyesteinsdottir. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Eticho, Rudolph, Judith and Emma.  He was the second oldest of the five children.

‌Conrad and Adelheid were married in a religious ceremony in 0825.  They had three sons and three daughters, named "the Justiciar", Conrad, Welf, Eve, Judith and Burgundy.
