His paternal grandparents were Roger de Mortimer , Lord of Wigmore and Maud de Braose; his maternal grandparents were William de Fiennes Knight and Blanche de Brienne , Dame de Loupelande. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Roger, Hugh De, Edmund II de, John De, Iswolde de, Maude, Matilda, Joan De, Margaret and Elizabeth.
