Joan De was born about 1292 in Of, Wigmore, Herefordshire, England.1   Joan De's father was Edmund De Mortimer Lord of Wigmore and her mother was Margaret de Fiennes.  Her paternal grandparents were Roger de Mortimer , Lord of Wigmore and Maud de Braose; her maternal grandparents were William de Fiennes Knight and Blanche de Brienne , Dame de Loupelande. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Roger, Hugh De, Walter De, Edmund II de, John De, Iswolde de, Maude, Matilda, Margaret and Elizabeth.  She is the sixth oldest of the eleven children.
