Martin Van Buren Hayes 
Martin Van Buren was born on February 24th, 1840 in Shelbyville, Shelby Co, Ind. Martin Van Buren's father was James B. Hayes ,Jr and his mother was Elizabeth"Betsy" Wheeler. His paternal grandparents were James B. Hayes , Sr and Sarah; his maternal grandparents were Benjamin"Mine" Wheeler and Sarah Barlow. He had two brothers and five sisters, named James K Polk, John Cole, Ellendor Bessie, Judith Julia B., Sally, Angelina Geneva and Mary Elizabeth. He was the third oldest of the eight children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Benjamin "Frank" Franklin and Nancy "Amanda". He died in Ia.General Notes
Civil War Vet-- enlisted Aug 11, 1861 in 2nd Iowa Calvary (Co D) with hisstep-brothers Webb & Will Rooker. They took their own horses. Webb lostboth of his eyes in battle.
He was 37 years old when married "Matt" , Mattie Corbin, age 15 atmarriage.
