John of Henrico had original 400 acre land patent "in Goochland County ona a branch of the Barren Lick Creek of the Willis' River" in BuckinghamCounty, Va on July 10, 1745." He is probably the father of Archelaus.Other siblings according to Wheeler Cousins by Vivagene Wheeler Handleyof Springfield, Mo, 1984 printed by Means Lithographers in Aurora, Moare: John, Sarah, Samuel, Charles, Benjamin, and Rowland. They all beganappearing in records in Buckingham and Cumberland counties, Va about1763-1765, which coincides with when the Wheelers left Henrico County.
Although John's parentage can not be proved, it seems likely that hedecended from David Wheeler who was born in England, son of John and AnnYeomans. He came from County Kent, England to Newburyport, Mass abroadthe ship "Confidence" saling from Southampton, England April 24, 1636.
The principal reasons for the migration on the Wheelers from Englandclosely paralleled the causes which led to almost all the migration atthat period. Chief among them was the infamous Act of 1593 which said"all persons above sixteen years of age, who obstinately refuse to attenddivine service at some established church, should be committed to prison,without bail, until they should conform and make public confession ofconformity, in terms prescribed by the statute itself." in the ensuing 30years, the King (Charles I) taxed his people without representation antconfined to the Tower those who questioned his right. Between 1629 and1640 over 200 emigrant ships containing 20,000 Englishmen, had foundrefuge in America.
