John Henry was born on November 3rd, 1857 in Cass County, Nebraska. John Henry's father was Ruel Rose Davis and his mother was Obedience Hobson. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Davis and Lucy Rose; his maternal grandparents were William Hobson and Obedience Hadley. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Stephen Alvis, Orlando Jacob, Brantley Hadley, Westley Abner, William Rose, Joseph M., Eunice Elvira and Julia Ann.
