Hi Steve...good to hear from you. Though we trace all Rose of the U.S., regardless of family, it happens that the one from which you descend is our own Rose family. My husband is a descendant of Abner Rose through his son Bennet Rose, and the latter's son William Jefferson Rose of Alabama who crossed the plains to California in 1856. It took us many, many years of research in various places before we determined that Abner Rose is most likely the son of John and Lucy (Bennett) Rose of King George-Stafford Cos., Va. As to the ancestry, it is not known. I suspect that John is the immigrant, but we have nothing before him. We do know by DNA that there are some connections to other Roses. Surprisingly, the William Rose family of Fayette Co., Pa. (from whom Judge Uriah Rose descends, whose statute represents Arkansas in Statuary Hall, Washington, D.C.). The connection to William Rose appears to be before the families came to the U.S., so they may not even have known each other. DNA also indicates connection to a Canadian Rose who knows from records that his family is out of Invergordon, Scotland so we assume that our John who m. Lucy was out of that area.
