Ellen McDellan was born in September 1876 in Paynesville, Kentucky.1 Ellen McDellan's father was Frederick Martin Knott and her mother was Sarah Jane (Jennie) Payne. Her paternal grandparents were Raphael (Ralph) Knott and Abigail Basham; her maternal grandparents are William Henry Payne and Mary Ann Mattingly. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Hilary O., William Henry, James M., Proctor Paul, Ethel McDellan, Margaret, Mary Ethyl and Alma. She was the oldest of the nine children. She died at the age of 84 on December 11th, 1960 in Browns Valley, Kentucky.
