Obediah Basham 
Obediah was born on April 7th, 1760 in Cumberland Co., Virginia.1 Obediah's father was William Basham and his mother was UNKNOWN Elizabeth. His paternal grandparents were William Basham and Sarah (Agness) Angel. He had a brother and a sister, named Jonathan and Elizabeth. He was the oldest of the three children. He had three half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Uriah, Cary, Barnett A., Lucy, Celia, Nancy, Rhoady, Peggy and Mary (Polly). He died at the age of 80 on May 28th, 1840 in Breckinridge Co, KY. Obediah Basham of Breckenridge County declares that he enlisted in 17
77 or 1778 in Cumberland County, Virginia under Capt. John Lee in the 1
st Virginia Regiment of Col. Parker for three years. He was
transferred to Capt. Joseph Carrington's Company, then at Petersburgh, w
as transferred to Capt. Tollivar's Company, was taken prisoner at Charlest
own, was sent by water to Williamsburg and was
discharged.
Obediah owned 50 acres of land worth $150, one horse, two cows, and thr
ee calves. In Feb 1823 he sold the land to Henry Basham. One horse and so
me money went to pay his debts. His family consists of
his wife, aged 60, and son Francis aged 15. Obediah Basham of Breckenrid
ge County, Kentucky, Private in the Regiment of Col Parker in the Virgin
ia Line for three years was placed on the Kentucky
Pension Roll at $8 per month under the Act of 1818 from 25 July 1818. Cer
tificate #9411 was issued 14 April 1819. He died 28 May 1840.[basham.ged]

Obediah and Celia were married in a religious ceremony on September 5th, 1782 in married by William Johnson.4 They had ten sons and three daughters, named Bartlett, James, Micajah, Henry Dowell, Henry Dowell, Joseph Dowell, Frederick, Allen Dowell, Francis (Frank), Francis Marion, Margaret, Margaret and Margaretha.
