Julia was born on December 1st, 1858 in Texas.1 Julia's father was Joseph Leland Straley and her mother was Sarah Rebecca Clark. Her paternal grandparents were Charles M Straley and Elizabeth McComas. She had six brothers and a sister, named Joseph Leland, Charles C, John Henry, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Houston, Andrew Jackson and Minerva. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
