Roger De Mortimer 
Roger was born on April 25th, 1287 in Of, Netherwood, Thornbury, Herefordshire and his baptism took place about May 3rd, 1287.1 Roger's father was Edmund De Mortimer and his mother was Margaret Fiennes. His paternal grandparents were Roger De Mortimer and Maud De Braiose; his maternal grandparents were William De Fiennes and Blanche De Brienne. He had two sisters named Isolde Iseude Iswolde and Matilda Maud. He was the youngest of the three children. He died at the age of 43 on November 29th, 1330 in Elms, Tyburn, Warwickshire, England. Roger de Mortimer was the 8th Baron Mortimer of Wigmore. He was created Earl of Marche and executed in 1330. (Americans of Royal Descent, CharlesH Browning, p 524-525)
Roger de Mortimer, 8th Lord of Wigmore, "was he who is so well known inour general histories as the favourite of Isabel, the queen of Edward II. In the parliament begun the 2nd year of Edward III, he caused himself to be advanced to the title of Earl March; and the same year (held) a RoundTable at Bedford. After which, King Edward ... was magnificently entertained by this Roger,in his castles of Ludlow and Wigmore; and so likewise in his forests andparks, with great costs in tiltings and other pastimes." "But hereupon he grew proud beyond measure; insomuch that his own son, Geffrey, called him the King of Folly. He also kept the Round Table in Wales for a pride, in imitation of the knights of King Arthur's RoundTable." The king finally had him arrested by surprise at Nottingham Castle, using a underground passage, which is yet called Mortimer's Hole. He was accused of certain high crimes, found guilty, and sentenced "to be drawnand hanged." He was executed at the common gallows called the Elmes near Smithfield.His naked body hung there for two days and two nights. First buried at GreyFriars, his body was finally laid to rest at Wigmore.
