ROGER DE MORTIMER, son of HUGH DE MORTIMER and MAUD DE MESCHINES: Roger de Mortimer, the 2nd son, succ. his father. He was politically very active until 1191, when he was charged with conspiring
with the Welsh against the King. He was forced to
surrender his castles and lands and leave the country for three yrs; he next appears at the coronation of Richard I in 1194. He was active on the Welsh Marches, but in 1196 was badly defeated at
Radnor by Rhys [Prince of South Wales]. On the loss of
Normandy in 1204, he sided with King John and forfeited his Norman lands. He m. Isabel de Ferrieres, dau of Walkelin de Ferrieres [Lord of Oakham]. He d. Aug 1214; bur. at Wigmore. Isabel m2. Piers
FitzHerbert (who d. Jun 1235). She retained her
