Richard was born about 1130 in Tonbridge, Kent, Eng.1 Richard's father was Gilbert De Clare and his mother was Adeliza Of Lorraine. His paternal grandparents were Gilbert FitzRichard De Clare and Adeliza De Clermont; his maternal grandparents were Godfrey I A La Barbe Brabant Lorraine and Clementia Countess Of Namur. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named William and Alice. He died on April 9th, 1176 in d.s.p.m., Dublin, Ire. He was buried in Holy Trinity Dublin.1 1 General Notes

Burke give his inscription: "Hic jacet Ricardus Strongbow, filius Gilberti, Comitis de Pembroke".
And again Burke: "...but by others it is reported that, being by treachery abused and wounded, he departed this life the 5th year after his
acquisition of the province of Leinster, and that he was buried at Dublin..."
