Sir Edward was born about 1329 in Haccombe, Devon.1   Sir Edward's father was Hugh Courtenay and his mother was Margaret De Bohun.  His paternal grandparents were Hugh De Courtenay and Agnes Saint John; his maternal grandparents were Humphrey De Bohun and Elizabeth Princess Of England. He had seven brothers and nine sisters, named Sir Thomas, Sir Peter, William, John, Philip De, Sir Humphrey, Sir Hugh, Margaret, Joan de, Elizabeth, Catherine, Matilda, Eleanor, Guinora, Isabell and Phillipa.  He died in 1372.1

‌Sir Edward and Emeline were married in a religious ceremony about 1356.1   They had two sons named Edward and Sir Hugh of Haccombe.
