Piers Fitzherbert 
Piers was born about 1166 in Brecknock, Wales.1 Piers' father was Herbert Fitzherbert and his mother was Lucy of Hereford Lady of Blaen Llyfni. His paternal grandparents were Herbert Fitzherbert and Sybil Corbet; his maternal grandparents were Miles Milo Fitz Walter De Gloucester and Sybil De Neufmarche. He was an only child. Peter FitzHerbert was one of the Barons who signed the Magna Charta, but was not one of the Sureties for its observance. He was at first very obsequious to King John and was reputed one of that Prince's evil counsellors. In 1214 he was constituted Governor of Pykering Castle, County York, and Sheriff of the Shire. Afterwards, falling off in his allegiance, his lands at Alcester, which he had received through his grandmother, Juliana Corbet, were seized by the crown and given to William de Camville. Returning, however, to his duty upon accession of Henry III, those lands were restored to him.
