Joseph James Braswell 
Joseph James was born on October 16th, 1824 in Edgecombe Co. NC. Joseph James' father was Robert Russell Braswell and his mother was Anselina Stringer. His paternal grandfather was Permentor Braswell; his maternal grandparents were William Stringer and Keziah Pitt. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Benjamin Guilford, Thomas Permenter, Robert Stringer, John Daniel, Keziah Margaret, Elizabeth Catherine, Arretta and Anselina Jane "Lanie". He was the oldest of the nine children.
