His paternal grandparents were Mathew Malachi Rushing and Martha E. Ham. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Charlie M., Baron DeKalb Washington, Jr., William Wesley, Phillip Jefferson, Etta, Laura S., Carrie Bell and Cora Lee. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John Thomas Edmous, Leroy, Franklin Jerome, Bessie Mae, Annie Beatrice, Edith and Mary E.. He died at the age of 77 in March 1978 in ?.1 -
