John Mathewson 
John was born on October 6th, 1668 in Providence, Providence Co., RI. John's father was James Mathewson and his mother was Hannah Field. His maternal grandparents were John Field and Ruth Fairbanks. He had four brothers and four sisters, named James, Thomas, Zachariah, Daniel, Ruth, Isabel, Lydia and Mary. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 47 on September 18th, 1716 in Scituate, Providence Co., RI.General Notes
Like many places, Providence once covered a much larger area than the present d ay size. John and his descendants were in, what is now the northwestern part of Johnston. The location probably did not change, but the name of town chang ed several times when new towns were formed. The long time farm was located on the north end of the pond, near the present day intersection of Windor, Steere and Greenwich Roads.
