Israel Mathewson 
Israel was born on January 3rd, 1708 in Providence, Providence Co., RI. Israel's father was John Mathewson and his mother was Deliverance Malavery. His paternal grandparents were James Mathewson and Hannah Field. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Daniel, Lydia, Elizabeth, Ann and Jemima. He was the third youngest of the seven children. He died about January 1st, 1779 in Ashford, Windham Co., CT.General Notes
Ref: # 28 According to info found many moons ago at the Connecticuit State Li brary by Elaine Merrell; Israel on Aug 31, 1776 deeded to Samuel Steere Jr. his homestead property on the NE corner of Moswansicut Pond (in very NW corner of Johnston, Providence Co., RI). The current map of the area would make the loc ation just south of Winsor Road (about 600 or so feet east of the junction) of Steere and Winsor Roads. Another 900 or so feet west of the junction is the st art of Winsor Road (runs east from Rt 116 -West Greenville Road)in the very NE part of Scituate, thru northern Johnston to Greenville Av., just west of the Ha mlet of "Fountain Spring" ----------------------------------- Israel's brothe rs, John and Daniel were located very close by, so it seems reasonable that the ir father John had owned a much larger plot of land surrounding Moswansicut Pon d. In the early days the property was likely in Providence Township, later taken off to form Scituate and still later, their lands were taken to form part of Johnston.
