Eleanor was born on October 12th, 1292 in Caerphilly Castle, Glamorganshire, Wales.1   Eleanor's father was Gilbert the Red de Clare Earl of Gloucester and her mother was Joan of Acre Plantagenet.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard de Clare Earl of Clare and Maude de Lacy; her maternal grandparents were Edward King Of England and Eleanor. She had a sister named Margaret.  She was the younger of the two children. She had a half-brother named Thomas de Monthermer.  She died at the age of 44 on June 30th, 1337.1
