Gilbert de Clare was born in Hertford, Hertfordshire, England/Hertford, England.1   Gilbert de Clare's father was Richard FitzRoger de Clare Earl of Clare and his mother was Amicia FitzRobert.  His paternal grandparents were Roger de Clare the Good Earl of Hertford and Matilda de St. Hilary du Harcourt; his maternal grandparents were William FitzRobert Earl of Chester and Hawise de Beaumont. He had a sister named Matilda.  He died on October 25th, 1230 in Perres-Guirrec ( Penrose), Brittany, France.1
