Richard of was born in Winchester Castle, England.  Richard of's father was John "Soft Sword" and his mother was Isabella de Taillefer.  His paternal grandparents were Henry II "FitzEmpress" Plantagenet and Eleanor d'Aquitaine et Poitou; his maternal grandparents were Aimer de Taillefer and Alix Adelaide De Joigny Courtenay Courtenay. He had a brother and three sisters, named Henry III of, Eleanor of, Isabella of and Joan of. He had fourteen half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Richard, Oliver, Osbert, Bartholomew, Eudes, Geoffrey, Henry, John, Philip, Hugh XI, Aymer, Geoffrey, Guy, William, Joan of, Isabel, Maud, Agnes, Alice Brun, Isabelle and Marguerite.  He died on April 2nd, 1272 in Berkhamsted Castle, Hertfordshire, England.  He was buried in Hayles Abbey.
